Pre-registration pharmacist tutor training programme – June 2018

We have been working with Norfolk and Suffolk LPCs, Health Education England (HEE) and the UEA to develop and deliver a training programme to equip tutors to successfully coach and lead their pre-registration pharmacist trainees to achieve registration. This years programme will be held together with hospital colleagues. Funding provided from HEE to improve training standards and pre-registration examination pass rates will be made available to help facilitate tutor attendance. To this end £250 will be made available per delegate to fund locum cover or attendance*.

The one-day training course will be delivered across a choice of three different dates and venues in order to provide as broad access to the training as possible. These are listed below.

The course will cover the GPhC standards and competencies required of pre-registration trainee pharmacists in order to achieve registration, recording evidence, coaching, assessment and feedback techniques, handling trainees having difficulty and the Oriel recruitment process which will be adopted from 2018/19 for all pre-registration places in community and hospital pharmacy. The training days will also seek to establish a tutor network to support each other including both hospital & community pharmacy colleagues. There is also an aim to establish a network for trainees.

Registration will open at 9.30am and the day will finish by 4.30pm. Each of the sessions is open to tutors from all of the LPC areas to allow tutors to access the most personally suitable venue and date around other commitments, with the aim of achieving good attendance and a successful programme. Lunch and refreshments will be provided during the day.

Numbers are limited and delegates are asked to be aware that booking onto the course and failing to attend will likely result in the contractor being charged a penalty fee.

We do hope that tutors will see this as a valuable, funded opportunity to access good quality tutor training & support delivery to the pharmacists of the future. Clearly it is a fantastic opportunity for joint-working & improving networks with hospital tutors and opens up the potential for fostering cross-sector short placements for trainees.
